Tarus is finally here

The staff of Tarus has been preparing the camp for two and a half years. Our number has steadily grown, and now we have over four thousand Rangers, Rovers and leaders fulfilling important Tarus duties. The planning has taken countless hours, and those participating have learned many valuable skills. Also the experiences from previous Finnjamborees have helped us tremendously. I think that this is exactly what Guiding and Scouting is about – doing and learning things together.

Also local groups and patrols have made preparations for Tarus. Last summer most of us took part in a Guide or Scout camp. There has been different kind of projects going on throughout the year. Tarus has been in many minds for a long time. I hope that within the next nine days people will show the most of their camping skills and help each other. You might even learn a new way to build a dining shelter from the sub unit next to yours.

As we all know Tarus lasts for nine days. You would think it is quite a long time but already during the opening ceremony I heard somebody sigh: It’s nearly over. Luckily, Tarus will live in our memories and new skills will not be forgotten. Some skills, like orienteering and paddling, can be used on camps in the future. Hopefully all of us will leave Tarus with their baggage full of wonderful experiences. After all, that is what Guiding and Scouting is about.

Tarusgreetings,

mjukka
